About Demons
Fyodor Dostoevsky's 1872 political novel — also published as Demons — follows a group of nihilists in a provincial Russian town led by the demonic Pyotr Verkhovensky, who organizes a murder to bind them together. The possessed are both the nihilists who have been possessed by revolutionary ideology and the broader Russian society infected by Western ideas. Stavrogin, the novel's enigmatic central figure, is Dostoevsky's most mysterious creation.
