Maurice Sendak

Maurice Sendak was one of the most celebrated and influential illustrators and authors in children's literature history. Where the Wild Things Are (1963) won the Caldecott Medal and is one of the best-selling picture books of all time, appearing in virtually every list of greatest children's books. Sendak worked with a distinctive emotional intensity that many considered radical for children's books. His other major works include In the Night Kitchen and Outside Over There.
