About Flannery O'Connor

Flannery O'Connor (1925–1964) was an American Catholic novelist and story writer from Milledgeville, Georgia — one of the most distinctive voices in American fiction, working in the southern gothic tradition with an emphasis on divine grace arriving through violent and unexpected means. She published two novels (Wise Blood, 1952; The Violent Bear It Away, 1960) and two story collections (A Good Man Is Hard to Find, 1955; Everything That Rises Must Converge, 1965, posthumous). She was diagnosed with lupus in 1952 and died at thirty-nine. Her work has grown steadily in reputation since her death and she is now considered one of the major figures in twentieth-century American literature.
