About Villette
Charlotte Brontë's Villette (1853) is widely considered her finest novel — a deeply psychological work about Lucy Snowe, an Englishwoman who takes a teaching position in a Belgian school in the fictional city of Villette, and falls in love with the volatile professor Paul Emanuel. More formally experimental than Jane Eyre, with a deliberately ambiguous ending. Charlotte Brontë's novels in order: Jane Eyre (1847) → Shirley (1849) → Villette (1853).
