About Utopia

Utopia (1516) by Sir Thomas More — the founding work of the utopian literary tradition: Raphael Hythloday's description of the ideal island commonwealth of Utopia (communal property, religious tolerance, six-hour working day) contrasted with the miseries of 16th century Europe. More's coinage 'utopia' puns on both 'good place' and 'no place' in Greek.
