Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird (1960) is a standalone novel narrated by Scout Finch, who looks back on her childhood in Maycomb, Alabama in the 1930s, centered on her father Atticus Finch's defense of Tom Robinson, a Black man falsely accused of raping a white woman. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1961 and one of the most widely taught novels in American schools.
