About The Years
Virginia Woolf's The Years (1937) is her longest novel and the one that sold best in her lifetime — a family chronicle following the Pargiter family from 1880 to 'Now', tracking how lives accumulate small losses and changes across more than fifty years. The most overtly political of Woolf's mature works, written as fascism rose across Europe, The Years asks what has changed for women across the Victorian, Edwardian, and interwar eras — and what has remained obstinately the same.
