About Tenant of Wildfell Hall
Anne Brontë's The Tenant of Wildfell Hall (1848) is one of the most radical 19th-century English novels — the story of Helen Graham, who escapes her abusive alcoholic husband Arthur Huntingdon, told through her diary. The first English novel to argue explicitly for a woman's right to leave her husband. Anne Brontë also wrote Agnes Grey (1847), her first novel based on her experiences as a governess.
