About Sound and the Fury

William Faulkner's The Sound and the Fury (1929) is one of the most formally daring novels in American literature — the decline of the Compson family told four times from four different perspectives, including the memorable opening section narrated by the cognitively disabled Benjy. Faulkner's other major works include As I Lay Dying (1930), Absalom, Absalom! (1936), and Light in August (1932). As I Lay Dying is typically recommended as the first Faulkner novel to read.
