About Metamorphoses

Metamorphoses (c. 8 CE) — Ovid's fifteen-book compendium of approximately 250 Greek and Roman myths organized around the theme of transformation: Narcissus, Daphne, Actaeon, Arachne, Pygmalion, and Orpheus among hundreds of others. The single most important source for classical mythology in the Western tradition, and the book Shakespeare, Chaucer, and Milton all knew by heart.
