Michael Cunningham's The Hours (1998) is a standalone Pulitzer Prize–winning novel following three women across three time periods — Virginia Woolf writing Mrs Dalloway in 1920s Richmond, a housewife in 1951 Los Angeles reading the novel, and a book editor in 1990s New York living out a day structured like Mrs Dalloway. All three are connected by Woolf's novel and by the threat of death.
