Arundhati Roy's The God of Small Things (1997) is a standalone debut novel following twin siblings Rahel and Estha from an Indian family in Kerala in 1969 and 1993, and the catastrophe that caste society made inevitable in the summer of their childhood. Winner of the Man Booker Prize in 1997 and one of the defining novels of postcolonial literary fiction.
