Siddhartha Mukherjee's The Emperor of All Maladies (2010) won the Pulitzer Prize for its sweeping narrative history of cancer — from its first recorded appearances in ancient Egypt to modern targeted therapies — told through the scientists, physicians, patients, and advocates who transformed understanding and treatment of the disease. Mukherjee followed it with The Gene (2016), a companion biography of genetics, and The Laws of Medicine (2015).
