About Salinger

J.D. Salinger (1919–2010) published one novel, one collection, and two slim volumes, then fell entirely silent — one of the most consequential creative silences in American literary history. The Catcher in the Rye (1951) is his novel, one of the bestselling books in history; Nine Stories (1953) is the story collection that introduced the Glass family; Franny and Zooey (1961) and Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters and Seymour: An Introduction (1963) are the Glass family novellas. After 1965 he published nothing, living in isolation in Cornish, New Hampshire. His estate is expected to release posthumous work, but as of 2026 nothing has appeared.
