About The Aeneid

The Aeneid (c. 19 BCE) — Virgil's twelve-book epic: Aeneas's journey from the ruins of Troy to the founding of Rome, through his affair with Dido (who kills herself when he leaves), his visit to the underworld, and the war in Latium. The foundational epic of Rome and the primary predecessor for Dante's Divine Comedy and Milton's Paradise Lost.
