About Tender Is the Night

Tender Is the Night (1934) is F. Scott Fitzgerald's most ambitious and most personally felt novel — the story of Dick Diver, a brilliant American psychiatrist whose career and self disintegrate over a decade in Europe, drawing on Fitzgerald's experience of his wife Zelda's mental illness and his own alcoholism. More psychologically complex than The Great Gatsby, it is the Fitzgerald novel that contains the most human depth.
