About Six Characters

Six Characters in Search of an Author (1921) by Luigi Pirandello is the foundational text of theatrical modernism — six Characters who interrupt a rehearsal, claiming to have been abandoned by their Author, and demanding that the Company of Actors perform their story. The 1921 Rome premiere caused a riot. Pirandello won the Nobel Prize in 1934; this is his most performed and most influential work.
