Audre Lorde's Sister Outsider: Essays and Speeches (1984) collects fifteen essays and speeches written between 1976 and 1983 in which Lorde articulates the foundational concepts of her thought: the erotic as a source of power, the transformation of silence into language and action, the uses of anger, and the necessity of working across difference without erasing it. One of the most important texts of Black feminist theory and of the intersectional thinking — before that term existed — that has shaped contemporary feminist, queer, and critical race discourse.
