About Scorpio Races
Maggie Stiefvater's The Scorpio Races (2011) is a standalone novel set on the fictional island of Thisby, where every November water horses — capaill uisce — emerge from the Atlantic and the fastest riders in the world race them along the beach. The race kills multiple riders every year. Sean Kendrick has won four times; Puck Connolly will be the first woman to enter. The novel is a Newbery Honor book and is widely considered one of Stiefvater's finest standalone works. It draws on Celtic mythology around water horses and is completely unrelated to the Raven Cycle.
