Richard III (c. 1592–1593) — Shakespeare's most theatrical villain: Richard Duke of Gloucester's campaign of murder and manipulation to seize the English throne, his famous opening monologue ('I am determined to prove a villain'), the cry 'A horse! My kingdom for a horse!' at Bosworth Field, and the Princes in the Tower. The greatest political villain-hero in English drama.
