About Pygmalion
Pygmalion (1913) by George Bernard Shaw is the most performed Shaw play — the phonetics professor Henry Higgins's bet that he can transform the Cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle into a woman who can pass as a duchess, and the question of what Eliza is actually being made into and what she will do with her transformation. Shaw refused to allow the romantic ending; My Fair Lady (1956) is the musical that gave Higgins and Eliza the ending Shaw rejected.
