About Nervous Conditions

Tsitsi Dangarembga's Nervous Conditions (1988) follows Tambudzai Sigauke, a young Shona girl in 1960s Rhodesia who wins the opportunity to attend the mission school run by her educated uncle, and discovers that the colonial education she has sought will ask her to pay a price she did not expect. The first novel published in English by a Black Zimbabwean woman and one of the most important works of African feminist fiction.
