About Madame Bovary

Gustave Flaubert's Madame Bovary (1857) is a standalone novel following Emma Bovary, a farmer's daughter who finds her romantic fantasies irreconcilable with her life as a provincial doctor's wife. One of the founding texts of literary realism, prosecuted for obscenity on publication, and one of the most influential novels ever written.
