About Life and Fate
Vasily Grossman's Life and Fate (1960), suppressed by the KGB and published in the West in 1980, is set during the Battle of Stalingrad and follows multiple Russian families across the Eastern Front. At roughly 900 pages, it draws explicit parallels between Nazism and Stalinism and is considered the War and Peace of the twentieth century.
