Travis Baldree's Legends & Lattes (2022) is a cozy fantasy novel following Viv, an orc barbarian who retires from a life of adventuring to open the first coffee shop in the city of Thune — a city that has never heard of coffee and doesn't know if it wants any. The book is widely cited as one of the founding texts of the cozy fantasy genre alongside The House in the Cerulean Sea. Baldree originally self-published the novel before it was acquired by Tor and became a bestseller, winning the Goodreads Choice Award for both fantasy and romance. A prequel, Bookshops & Bonedust (2023), follows a younger Viv fifteen years earlier.
