About Know My Name

Chanel Miller's Know My Name (2019) is the memoir of the woman known as Emily Doe in the 2016 Brock Turner sexual assault case at Stanford University, reclaiming her full identity and story from the reductive frame of the criminal trial. Written after Miller revealed her identity publicly, the memoir is both a survivor's account of the aftermath of sexual trauma and a critique of how the American legal system treats sexual assault survivors — their credibility, their reduction to victim status, and the indifference of sentencing to their harm.
