About Goblin Emperor
Katherine Addison's The Goblin Emperor (2014) is a standalone fantasy novel about Maia — the half-goblin, half-elf fourth son of the Emperor of the Elflands — who unexpectedly becomes Emperor when his father and three older brothers are killed in an airship accident. Raised in exile by an abusive caretaker, Maia knows nothing about court and has no allies. The novel follows his first months ruling through kindness in a court built around cruelty. The Goblin Emperor is frequently cited as one of the foundational texts of cozy fantasy. Addison also wrote The Witness for the Dead (2021) and The Grief of Stones (2022), companion novels set in the same world.
