About Glass Family

J.D. Salinger's Glass family fiction comprises Franny and Zooey (1961), Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters and Seymour: An Introduction (1963), and the Glass family stories within Nine Stories (1953). The Glass family — seven brilliant children of a vaudeville couple in New York — first appeared in 'A Perfect Day for Bananafish' (1948), which ends with Seymour's suicide. Franny and Zooey develops Franny's spiritual crisis and Zooey's response; Raise High follows Buddy Glass narrating Seymour's wedding day. The Glass family world is Salinger's most sustained literary project, distinct from Holden Caulfield in The Catcher in the Rye.
