About Conversations with Friends
Sally Rooney's Conversations with Friends (2017) is her debut standalone novel about two Dublin students, Frances and Bobbi, who become entangled with a married couple. It shares thematic concerns with Rooney's subsequent novels Normal People (2018) and Beautiful World, Where Are You (2021) — all three deal with desire, class, and interpersonal dynamics among young Irish people — but the characters and plots are entirely independent.
