S.A. Chakraborty's Daevabad trilogy is set in the hidden city of Daevabad, home to six tribes of djinn who have been at war for millennia. Nahri is a young con artist in 18th-century Cairo who discovers she has real healing powers — and a hidden identity that ties her to the djinn world. When a warrior djinn named Dara accidentally summons himself while she's performing a ritual, they are both pulled to Daevabad, and into a conflict far older than either of them. The trilogy draws on Islamic mythology, djinn folklore, and the history of the medieval Islamic world.
