About Circe
Madeline Miller's Circe (2018) is a standalone literary fantasy novel retelling the life of the witch from Greek mythology — the daughter of the sun god Helios who is exiled to the island of Aeaea after discovering she has the power to transform both things and people. Over millennia of exile, Circe encounters Daedalus and the Minotaur, sails with the crew of the Argonauts, hosts Odysseus, and finally comes into open conflict with the gods. Miller's prose is lyrical and precise, and the novel is as interested in what the myths say about power, gender, and divinity as it is in retelling them. Circe won the Goodreads Choice Award for Fantasy and was a New York Times bestseller.
