Liane Moriarty's Big Little Lies (2014) is a complete standalone novel. There is no sequel. Set in an elite Sydney suburban community, the novel follows three women — Madeline, Celeste, and Jane — whose children attend the same school, and tracks the year that ends with a death at the school's trivia night. The novel moves backward and forward in time between the trivia night investigation and the events that led up to it. It was adapted into an HBO series starring Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman in 2017.
