About Beloved

Beloved (1987) by Toni Morrison is a Nobel and Pulitzer Prize-winning novel about a formerly enslaved woman in post-Civil War Ohio haunted by the ghost of the infant daughter she killed rather than allow to be returned to slavery. Widely considered the greatest American novel of the second half of the 20th century, it combines the conventions of Gothic fiction with unflinching historical truth about the psychological and moral costs of slavery.
