Arcadia (1993) by Tom Stoppard is the finest British play of the last fifty years — the Sidley Park estate in two time periods simultaneously: 1809 (Thomasina Coverly, her tutor Septimus Hodge, the visiting Ezra Chater, and Lord Byron in the vicinity) and the present (researchers Hannah Jarvis, Valentine Nightingale, and Bernard Nightingale). The play integrates chaos theory, entropy, and the second law of thermodynamics into a love story, and ends with both time periods sharing the stage simultaneously.
