About A Handful of Dust
Evelyn Waugh's A Handful of Dust (1934) follows Tony Last, devoted to his Victorian Gothic house Hetton Abbey, whose wife Brenda has an affair with a vacuous young man — a chain of consequences that ends with Tony stranded in the Amazon reading Dickens aloud to a madman. Waugh's own favorite among his novels, it is one of the great British comic works of the twentieth century.
